Looking for a plan that is safe, realistic, and built around your actual life
A breast cancer survivor, gynecologic cancer survivor, or someone with a complex medical history who wants to understand every safe option available
If you have been told, “That’s just aging,” but your gut says there has to be a better answer, you are exactly the kind of patient Dr. Shah loves helping.
You deserve a physician who listens, explains your real options, and helps you take charge of the life you are still very much living.

-
Time. Access. Expertise. A real plan.
At Equilibrium Health, your needs matter. Dr. Shah listens carefully, validates your concerns, and gives you honest, science-based guidance.
This is a level of care that is very difficult to provide in traditional insurance-based practices.
With Equilibrium Health, you receive:
Longer visits for deeper conversations and personalized planning
Direct access to your physician for questions and between-visit support
Gold-standard testing when appropriate
Results-driven care focused on your symptoms, goals, and safety
Clear, honest guidance about what the science currently says
A physician you can trust to explain your options and help you make informed decisions
No rushed “everything looks normal” visit. No guessing. No shrug emoji in medical form.
When you look at everything included in the annual membership, Equilibrium Health is not just high-value care.
It is a bargain for the level of access, expertise, and support you receive.
-
Because medical care is regulated by state licensing laws, patients must be located in a state where Dr. Shah is licensed at the time of the visit.
You may either live in one of those states or travel to one of those states for your appointment (for example work or go to school there).
Dr. Shah is currently licensed in:
Virginia
Washington, DC
Maryland
Telemedicine is wonderfully convenient, but unfortunately it does not come with a magic “all 50 states” button. We follow the rules carefully so your care is safe, appropriate, and legally compliant.
-
Yes.
Equilibrium Health does not accept insurance directly, but after each one-on-one physician visit, we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company.
A superbill includes the medical codes and documentation many insurance companies require, such as:
CPT codes
ICD-10 diagnosis codes
Visit documentation
If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you directly according to your plan. Submitting superbills may also help certain costs count toward your deductible.
Please note that reimbursement is not guaranteed, and the amount reimbursed will not necessarily equal the cost of your membership.
Superbills may also be useful for HSA or FSA reimbursement, depending on your plan rules.
Equilibrium Health also keeps your insurance information on file when needed for referrals, lab work, imaging, or prescriptions. That said, many patients find our direct pricing options for some services are so reasonable that they prefer to go directly instead of using insurance.
We will never sell you services you don’t want or need. We are medical professionals of the highest ethics.
-
Many people have heard of Direct Primary Care, often called DPC. These practices usually provide primary care through a membership or fee-for-service model and do not bill insurance directly.
Direct Specialty Care is similar, but it applies to specialty medical care.
Equilibrium Health is a direct specialty care practice focused on women’s health, menopause, hormone care, weight, longevity, and midlife wellness.
Many specialties have offered out-of-network or direct-pay care for years, including psychiatry, cosmetic dermatology, cosmetic surgery, and fertility-related services. More specialties are now moving in this direction because many patients and physicians want more time, more transparency, and fewer barriers to thoughtful care.
The result can be a better experience for patients and a more sustainable way for physicians to practice medicine.
In plain English: less red tape, more actual care.
We will never sell you services you don’t want or need. We are Board-Certified medical professionals of the highest ethical standards, recognized throughout the USA and the world.
-
Yes.
Most Equilibrium Health visits are done by telemedicine, which allows you to get thoughtful care without driving, parking, checking in, sitting in a waiting room, or wondering why every waiting room magazine is from 2017.
Telemedicine works well for many visits, including hormone care, weight management, medication follow-up, results review, and coaching.
Some visits may be done in person at our Tysons Corner office, including services such as:
Annual exams
Pelvic and breast exams
Ultrasounds
IUD placements
Other procedures or exams when needed
Prescriptions for hormone therapy, weight management, and many other appropriate medications are routinely provided for Equilibrium Health patients.
Dr. Shah is licensed, insured, and trained to provide high-quality, evidence-based care. Equilibrium Health does not keep narcotics, sedatives, precursor medications, or medication samples in stock at the office.

-
Yes. Absolutely.
Equilibrium Health provides specialized care, but it does not replace your primary care physician.
We do not treat routine illnesses such as the flu, low back pain, or general primary care concerns. We also do not prescribe medications outside our scope of care, such as certain cardiac, gastrointestinal, or mental health medications.
You should still see your primary care physician once a year for a general annual exam.
Equilibrium Health can provide many important parts of women’s health care, including:
Annual gynecologic exams
Pelvic and breast exams
Pap testing when needed
Hormone care
Annual bloodwork
Medication management within our scope
Preventive and wellness-focused planning
We are happy to coordinate with your primary care physician and share records or results when needed.
We can be your health home base if you choose, but you should keep a PCP in the loop, always!
-
No. And that is intentional.
Equilibrium Health operates outside of the insurance network so we can put your health, time, and experience first.
In insurance-based medicine, the insurance company often plays a major role in what care is covered, how much time is available, which medications are preferred, which tests are approved, and how much administrative work stands between you and your treatment plan.
That system often creates two major problems:
1. Your options may be limited by the insurance company’s policies.
Insurance companies often prefer lower-cost medications, limited testing, and narrow treatment pathways. Sometimes that is appropriate. Sometimes it is not the best choice for the patient sitting in the room.2. Your physician’s time gets pulled away from patient care.
Authorizations, coding, claims, denials, and coverage rules can consume hours of time. That means less time for listening, explaining, personalizing, and actually helping. At Equilibrium Health, the focus is different.
We prioritize:
Transparent pricing
Longer visits
Personalized care
Better access
Fewer administrative barriers
Treatment decisions guided by your needs, not an insurance company’s checklist
Insurance companies are businesses. That is not automatically evil, but it does mean their goals are not always the same as yours.
Your goal is to feel better, live longer, reduce risk, and get clear answers. Our goal is to help you do exactly that.
Patient care should not feel like a negotiation with a fax machine.

Menopause, Perimenopause & Hormone Therapy
-
When is perimenopause? When is menopause? And why is everyone talking about it?
Perimenopause usually begins about 5–10 years before menopause. During this time, hormone levels begin to shift, periods may become irregular, and symptoms can start to appear.
Common changes may include:
Hot flashes or night sweats
Mood changes
Sleep disruption
Brain fog
Changes in libido
Bone loss
Increased cardiovascular risk
Menopause is officially reached when you have gone 12 full months without a menstrual period. After that, you are considered menopausal or post-menopausal.
So why all the buzz?
Because menopause care is finally getting the attention it deserves. Women and physicians are taking a fresh look at the science, asking better questions, and making informed decisions about health, longevity, and quality of life. Hormones are now recommended for u to 10 years or longer post-menopause.
And for Perimenopause, getting the right answers in your early to mid 40’s and starting on the best care will add years to your life, save you from years of potential struggles. Learn from the wisdom of all those who have gone before you.
In other words: you are not “just getting older.” Your hormones are changing, and you deserve real answers.
-
You may see several terms used:
MHT = Menopause Hormone Therapy
HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy
HT = Hormone TherapyConfusing? Yes. Very on-brand for medicine, lol.
In everyday practice, these terms are often used to describe hormone treatments for low or changing levels of estrogen, progesterone, and sometimes testosterone.
The main difference is usually why the hormones are being prescribed.
MHT usually refers to hormone therapy used during natural menopause. The average age of menopause in the U.S. is about 51, although it can naturally occur between ages 45 and 55.
HRT is often used when hormones are prescribed because menopause happened early or prematurely. Early menopause occurs between ages 40–45, and premature menopause occurs before age 40. This can happen naturally, because of certain medical conditions, after chemotherapy or radiation, or after surgical removal of the ovaries.
HT is a broader term and is often used interchangeably with MHT or HRT.
At Equilibrium Health, you will usually hear us say hormone therapy. The terminology matters less than making sure the treatment is appropriate, individualized, and based on your health history and goals.
-
Hormone therapy is FDA-approved to treat some of the most common and disruptive menopause symptoms, including:
Hot flashes
Night sweats
Sleep disturbance
Mood symptoms
It is also considered the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats.
And let’s be honest: waking up drenched, exhausted, and wondering why your pajamas betrayed you is not a lifestyle.
Hormone therapy may also help with:
Brain fog and sleep disruption
Poor sleep can affect memory, focus, patience, and overall quality of life.Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, also called GSM
This can include vaginal dryness, pain with sex, vulvar or vaginal discomfort, urinary urgency, bladder pain, recurrent UTI-like symptoms, and sometimes constipation.Bone health
Hormone therapy can help reduce bone loss and lower the risk of fractures and osteoporosis.Low sexual desire
Testosterone therapy may be considered for some women, often along with other treatment options.Research is also ongoing regarding the long-term effects of hormone therapy on cardiovascular health and dementia risk. For some women, timing, health history, and treatment type may matter significantly. Your physician will help you understand what applies to you.
-
No. Equilibrium Health does not prescribe hormone pellets.
We use treatments that can be carefully dosed, monitored, and adjusted.
The FDA reviews medications for quality, safety, and effectiveness. Hormone pellets have not received FDA approval, and long-term safety data is limited.
Pellets can also be difficult because once inserted, they cannot be easily removed if side effects occur. Dosing may be inconsistent, and overdosing can happen.
Possible side effects may include:
Mood changes
Voice changes
Hair loss
New facial hair growth
Acne
Melasma, or dark patches on the face
Enlarged clitoris, which may be permanent
That last one is not a “wait and see” side effect.
With properly formulated, appropriately dosed, and carefully monitored hormone therapy, treatment can be safe, effective, and often life-changing.
-
For most women, yes.
Like all medications, hormone therapy has potential risks and benefits. The right decision depends on your personal health history, symptoms, goals, and risk factors.
Your physician should take time to review your options, answer your questions clearly, and help you make an informed decision.
There is no one-size-fits-all hormone therapy plan. The dose, route, formulation, and follow-up all matter.
At Equilibrium Health, care is provided by physicians who are certified by The Menopause Society as Menopause Society Certified Practitioners, also known as MSCPs. That means your physician has additional training in menopause care and understands the nuance involved in treating women safely and effectively.
Translation: you are in experienced hands.
-
Yes.
“Bioidentical” means the hormone has the same chemical structure as the hormone naturally produced by the body.
There are several excellent FDA-approved bioidentical estrogen and progesterone options available. These are commonly prescribed at Equilibrium Health when they are appropriate for the patient’s needs.
Sometimes, a compounded formula may be considered when an FDA-approved option does not meet a specific need. In other cases, the most effective, safest, or most cost-conscious choice may not be bioidentical.
The goal is not to chase a label. The goal is to find the treatment that is safe, effective, individualized, and right for you.
-
You still have options.
Many women are surprised to learn how many treatments are available, even when hormone therapy is not the right fit.
Sometimes hormones may still be considered. Sometimes non-hormonal options are safer and more appropriate. Either way, your physician will review your history carefully and help you understand your choices. Come in and find out the real science.
The most important thing is this:
Do not assume you have to suffer through symptoms without help.
Talk with our team at Equilibrium Health and find out what is safe for you.
